BARN CONVERSION

A West Coast Barn Conversion Near Camusdarach Beach

Completed in the summer of 2024, this barn conversion in Morar, just a short distance from the white sands of Camusdarach Beach, is a thoughtful transformation of an old agricultural space into a warm and welcoming home. The owners, Tom and Maggie, had long known that their barn held potential, but turning that potential into a practical and comfortable place to live required clear vision and careful execution.

The original barn offered character and location in equal measure, but it also came with structural and technical challenges. A key part of the renovation involved the installation of a 300kg structural beam, allowing the internal layout to be opened up safely and setting the foundation for the rest of the work to move forward with confidence.

Comfort was central to the design. Underfloor heating was installed throughout, finished with a poured screed that provides an even, efficient heat source while keeping the interior clean and uncluttered. Externally, the building was enhanced with timber kit, a choice that both improves insulation and sits naturally within the coastal Highland landscape.

The result is a home that feels rooted in its surroundings while offering all the benefits of modern construction. Tom and Maggie now have a space that reflects their original hopes for the barn, transformed into a practical, beautiful home on Scotland’s west coast.
